Overview

Riva TNT2 M64 is one of the most important cautionary names in the TNT2 family. It looks close to a normal TNT2 in listings, but the narrower memory configuration changes the practical performance class.

For the wiki, M64 is valuable because it documents how late-1990s GPU branding started to cover wide product stacks, not just one reference design.

Why It Mattered

TNT2 M64 shows NVIDIA's early low-cost segmentation strategy. It kept the TNT2 family identity while reducing memory bandwidth, which made it popular in cheaper systems and confusing in the used market.

Collector Notes

Record whether the board is branded M64, Vanta, or OEM-only. Memory-chip count, bus width clues, and part numbers are important because sellers often omit the M64 suffix.

Common Failure Points

The common issue is not knowing what it is. M64 cards can be stable and useful, but they should not be compared with full 128-bit TNT2 or TNT2 Ultra boards.

Used-Market Caution

Confirm M64 identity and do not pay full TNT2 prices. Check output quality, memory artifacts, cooling condition, and AGP/PCI compatibility.
