Overview

STG-2000 belongs with the NV1 generation rather than the later RIVA line. It is useful as a chip-level reference because early NVIDIA history includes partner and silicon naming that does not map cleanly to later consumer product branding.

Collectors should treat this as a documentation-heavy entry. Board photos, chip markings, memory package markings, and the exact vendor implementation are more important than assuming all NV1-family boards behave the same.

Why It Mattered

STG-2000 helps separate NVIDIA's first-generation chip history from the more familiar RIVA 128 and GeForce products. It records the experimental pre-mainstream phase where exact board identity matters more than broad family labels.

Collector Notes

Record the chip marking, board vendor, PCB revision, memory chips, display connector, audio or game-controller features if present, driver package, and photos of both sides of the board. Small naming differences can represent very different collector value.

Common Failure Points

Expect limited software compatibility and heavy dependence on period drivers. Unknown boards should not be assumed to support the same accessories or software bundle as a Diamond Edge 3D package.

Used-Market Caution

Buy only when the seller can provide clear photos of the chip, PCB, and connectors. Avoid listings that use NV1, STG-2000, and Diamond Edge names interchangeably without showing the actual board.
