AMD’s Ryzen 5 5500F Lands on Ten-Year-Old AM4

Ten equal green cells in two rows of five, one for each year of AMD's AM4 socket since its 2016 introduction, with the tenth cell filled brighter to mark the Ryzen 5 5500F added to that socket in September 2026. Exact count, one cell per year.

AMD's cheapest new six-core is an AM4 part arriving ten years after the socket, and its spec sheet lists Vermeer silicon with Cezanne cache. The Ryzen 5 7500 bolts two RDNA 2 compute units onto the 7500F, and Gorgon Halo gets its first laptop design.

An Unnamed x86 CPU Has Run Legacy-Free for a Year

Three stacked slabs for the operating modes an x86-64 CPU normally provides. Legacy Mode and Compatibility Mode are drawn hollow and crossed out at the bottom because the implementation described on the Linux kernel mailing list removes both, and 64-bit mode is filled in blue at the top because it is the only mode kept.

A request to document 64-bit-only behaviour for the Linux kernel describes an x86 part that dropped the modes Intel decided to keep, and says it has been in service for over a year.
